It’s All In Planning – Planning a trip

Planning a trip to Hong Kong isn’t difficult but requires a bit of time. You will have to consider how you want to travel there. A direct flight to Hong Kong International Airport is easily available from one of the many cities. Another option is to take a direct flight to China and then enter Hong Kong via a plane, ferry, or train. Once in Hong Kong, the most convenient way to reach the city is the Airport Express considering both time and money. Another way is by hiring a taxi which can cost you about HK$ 300-350. The cheapest way to get to the city is using a bus, the fare of which depends on the distance traveled and ranges from HK$14 to HK$48.

Best time to travel

One of the key factors in deciding when to visit Hong Kong is its weather conditions and the events that it hosts during the different months of the year. Hong Kong never falls short of tourists. Be it the dipping temperatures of the winters or the humidity of the summers, nothing deters the travelers from visiting the city.

  1. January to March

Admittedly, cool temperatures deter some travelers but not the Chinese, who visit the city in hordes during the holidays. The winter months of Hong Kong are from the months of January to March when the city celebrates two New Years, the Chinese New Year in February and the English New Year in January. The hotels increase the fare during the season. The winter months see low rainfall and the temperatures stay anywhere between 15 to 17 degrees Celsius. You might not get as amazing a shot of the city from Victoria Peak as fog tends to cover the air especially during the month of March. Besides the Chinese New Year, the city celebrates Hong Kong Arts Festival, around February – March and Hong Kong International Film Festival, around March- April.

  1. April - May

The Spring season in Hong Kong is witnessed during the months of April-May is an exceptional time to visit the city for avoiding winter’s chilliness and summer’s humidity. The room rates are more or less manageable unless you hit the tourist season around the national holidays. The city is host to Hong Kong Cultural Celebrations during April-May.

  1. June to September

The months from June-September are the summer months in Hong Kong as it stays hot, clammy, and typhoon-prone. The city is host to its most famous Dragon Boat Festival in the month of June, Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong in July, and mid-Autumn Festival in the month of September. The summer weather doesn’t discourage the travelers and consequently, the room rates stay as normal as during the other seasons.

  1. October-December - Best time to visit

The city’s pace never slows down even despite being just recovered from hot and humid summers and the season of typhoons. That brings us to the best time to visit Hong Kong which is during the months from October-December. The temperature stays between twenty to twenty-eight degrees Celsius with decreasing rainfall from October to December. The day temperatures are enjoyable with room rates staying to an average. The city celebrates Hong Kong Winter Fest from November-January. It is advisable to steer clear of the first of week of October that marks the celebration of the National Day on the First of October. Mainland Chinese tourists flock the city during this time.

In a gist, each season has its own perks. Even though the best time to visit Hong Kong is from October to December, if you are looking to protect your pockets, you must avoid traveling during the first week of October for its National Holiday falls during that time. The city, however, is filled with tourists despite its lower temperatures of winters or the stiflingly hot and humid summers.
