Step into the Nightlife
Cape Town boasts of a bustling nightlife full of revelry. Be it a quiet spot to witness a sundowner or dancing the night away, Cape Town’s nightlife will take you on a roll.
There are basically five Cape Town nightlife areas: Victoria Road at Camps Bay, Long Street for a younger African crowd, Bree Street with a concentration of most hip bars, upper Kloof, and Waterkant.
-
Asoka
Asoka on the Kloof Street, an Asian-styled lounge bar attracts a somewhat older crowd and plays the music composed by their esteemed in-house DJ.
-
Fiction
If you are looking for postage-stamp thumping on the dance floor, Fiction on the Long Street is the where you need to be. It is the most popular among the hipsters for its bigger and better dance floor that pumps past midnight.
-
Yours Truly
A comparatively relaxed space on Kloof Street is Yours Truly more famous with the locals gathering for morning coffee as well as after work drinks. It is the only place to have a rooftop bar named Up Yours which is a host to musicians and DJs every weekend.
-
Beerhouse
Beerhouse, with its most extensive collection of beers, is favored by the lovers of malts and hops. Take a seat on the yellow balcony for it can get pretty loud indoors. The place has ninety-nine bottled beers and twenty-two on tap, the best all over the city.
-
The Gin Bar
Housed in the courtyard of the Honest Chocolate is a cozy space where bartenders work their magic in making some of the finest gin-based cocktails. The Gin Bar or ‘the secret gin bar’ makes the best cocktails with gin and tonic. Incidentally, Honest Chocolate produces the best local chocolates. Grab a dark chocolate tart on your way out.
-
La Prada Del Mar
A new and perhaps the coolest introduction to the Camps Bay strip is La Prada Del Mar with its blue and white tiles and scruffy yet chic wall finish. The place is perfect for sunsets and drinks. If you, however, decide to stay a little longer for dinner, make sure to try their tapas styled dish of well-cooked octopus, ham croquettes, and pork belly.
-
The District
A premier space recently gaining a name for great events and music is The District at the Harrington Street. The place is managed by The Firm Cape Town, an events management company. It has one of the hottest party scenes in Cape Town with its feet thumping hip hop, electronic styles, and live music. Dress code is casual and the place remains open till four in the morning.
-
Cocoon
A little trendier and chic Cocoon is all about style and glamour. Located on the thirty-first floor of the Absa Building, expect great selection music like hip hop, electronic dance music with delicious cocktails.
