Phuket History:
Phuket history is as beautiful as Phuket itself is. The word Phuket is driven from a Malay word and its meaning is the hill. Phuket is also known as ‘Pearl of the South’. Phuket is the first mentioned who supplies the tin and rubber as it became a great revenue for the city and the country. Because of the tremendous supply of tin and rubber country’s economy became prosper in a short period. During the 15th century, Phuket was among the leading mins of tins and rubber. According to the history, Phuket was once a cape the cape was given a location that is considered to be Phuket.
Phuket as made a 360° change from its tin and rubber mining, and by its world-class tourism. In the late 1970s the accommodation in Phuket was relatively cheap as compared to now and it attracted many tourists but after few years the governor changed it.
The most important event of Phuket is when the island was attacked by the Burmese in 1785. It was the time when the governor of the city died and her wife came into charge along with her sister. Phuket won the war because of the two leading ladies Kunying Jan and Mook her sister. Their monuments were made and named as ‘Two heroines monuments’ also known as Heroines of Thalang and it is in Thep Kassattri.
Phuket Culture:
According to some sagacity the country Thailand has mostly Buddhist and a minority of Muslims. But they follow Hindu culture mostly. They are known for beautiful Artwork their most of the works are 150 years old. Art contributes a lot in Phuket culture. Their sculptures, sketches, and paintings are highly recognized. Their culture is one of the most attractive, beautiful and pleasing cultures.
Phuket culture has one honorable mention and it is its well-built architecture which is enough to fascinate the world. Once you have admired the architecture of the city go visit Phuket Thai Hua Museum and you fall in love with the Phuket culture once again. Phuket celebrates Songkran Festival and the Thai New Year where people sprinkle water on each other, in the month of April.
Phuket is famous for its foods especially seafood and in its honor, they celebrate seafood festival in the month of May to attract the tourist. Marine tourism resources parade also occurs during this festival. A lot of activity happens which may include mouth-watering seafood stalls, regional cuisines’ demonstration, and cultural shows.
One of the exciting cultural events is Phuket Vegetarian Festival which held on the ninth month of the lunar Chinese calendar. During this time the inhabitant observes a strict 10 days vegetarian diet.
