: Hotel Chinzanso was hands down the nicest property we stayed in over a two week tour of Japan. The location next to the Chinzanso Gardens is amazing. The dining facilities, particularly the Soba house are best in class, the garden view is absolutely to die for. The pools and hot tub and Onson are spectacular. It’s truly a 5 star hotel that earns that ranking.

: It’s hard to argue with anything but at $500+ per night it is hard on the pockets. It’s easily 2-3 times nicer then the $100/night hotel we stayed at immediately preceding Hotel Chinzanso but 5 times as nice is a stretch. That said next visit to Japan we plan to skimp on other hotels to allow 2 nights at Hotel Chinzanso!

: There is no mention of a tattoo ban on Booking.com. Having visible tattoos is banned from using the facilities such as the spa. I was unable to use any of these facilities. I am disappointed Booking.com makes NO mention of this. Also another note, you cannot eat or drink at the bar or restaurants if you are wearing shorts. You're much better staying at a Western hotel chain unless you want to be transported back to the 1950s.

: Not clear on booking.com that access to swimming pool was extra. Very expensive if you want have a family that wants to go there twice a day, so make sure to book room with "SPA" access. Swimming pool closed for hotel guests 18-20 each evening, i.e. the very time when you want to go for a swim after a day of excursions and before having dinner. A few minutes too far from metro.

: Everything else. Wonderfully Japanese with lots of action and celebrations. Great restaurants with some in the beautiful large garden. The hotel is a destination in itself. Good shuttle bus to Ikebukuro. Grand style is Japan of a decade or so ago so a relief from modern international hotels. Very highly recommended.

: No breakfast buffet and very poor choice of cereals.

: Room was big and beautiful and overlooking a very serene garden. The oensen bath, pool and sauna were very inviting and luxurious. The hotel had a very classy look with beautiful art work. Staff was very polite. This was the place to be for enjoying luxury in a quiet area of Tokyo. Would surely recommend to couples and would come back.
